These are my various works of "art", some for games, some for comics. One day, I hope to actually be happy with something I draw.
Some background: Edge of Justice was the story of an agent of an interstellar police organisation who had crash-landed on an uncharted planet, where he would have had to help the plantlike natives fight some... well, let's call them some extremely aggressive land developers. The game was supposed to take the form of a total conversion for HL2. This was before I even knew much about programming in C++, somewhere around 2001-2002. Eventually, University called, and the mod just faded into the archives of the one remaining site (besides here) where there's any info about it. I may revive it sometime, I think it still has potential.
Kruga. A pet of the "Developers", this little critter would act somewhat like a photophobic guard dog. One of my favourites.
Grelget commando. This creature is a mercenary working for the "Developers". I think this is one of my better pieces of artwork from this period.
Grelget heavy-weapons specialist. Another Grelget, this time operating a heavy-weapons platform. The Grelget creatures themselves are small, slug-like critters with mournful faces and tiny, stubby limbs. They occupy the "cockpit" in these mechanical bodies.
Water beasties. The flat crab slices, the worm bites, and the little round colourful crab gives you an electric shock if you get too near. Friendly, eh?
Borgo the gun-runner. A fellow crashee, Borgo would sell the player guns from his still-intact store. After all, all the time he's spent stranded is for naught if he hasn't found a way to make some profit. That thing in his hand is Sweetums the bottlecap, by the way. Yeah, Borgo's been on his own for a while now...
Sergeant Allan Clay. This fellow would arrive with reinforcements at some point in the game, shifting the goals considerably.
Corporal Samuel Hammich. Sam would be one of the reinforcements. The headband is to control armour functions. Good grief, he looks depressed.
Grelget. This is the first ever Grelget design. This one's just a generic foot-trooper. I picture him making a whirring, clicking sound as he walks, with his feet clanging on the metal walkways where he patrols.
Morris the hermit-droid. Yet another crash victim, Morris too has been alone for a long time (unlike Borgo, who chases the natives away and is pining for the company of other spacers, Morris is alone because nobody will come near the place he lives...). He's gone a little twitchy.
Scuttler. This is what's being used to cut down the forests... and their inhabitants.
ThreeDee. Concepts for the player's Dynamic Data Device, a sort of self-aware AI assistant and partner. Like a less-annoying and more-helpful version of that Clippit thing from Word.
A comic I'm working on. Set in the Aussie outback, it involves aliens, australiana, conspiracies, cryogenics, lies, mechanical monsters, mysteries, Ned Kelly, politics and powered armour, and that's just a start.
Neutralising Exo Defense Suit. This is a slightly-altered version of the first design I tried for a prototype suit of bulletproof powered armour. Australians might recognise the source of the inspiration, especially in the shape of the helmet.
Neutralising Exo Defense Suit v2. Here's the second version, which I like a bit more. The man wearing it is one Burke Williams, an ex-cryocon (a prisoner frozen until the prison system has enough time, space and resources to deal with them).
Hancock Arms MK II "Lightning" Plasma Gun. The weapon of choice for the discerning soldier. Buy one and use it as a pistol. Buy two, and get a free frontal grip for use in rifle mode. Buy three, and you've got serious compensation problems.
Alien vortex weaponry. The only armament of a largely-peaceful alien race, vortex weapons project a spinning ring of air at a target, hopefully stunning it long enough for the user to escape.
An elkimit. A creepy alien swamp monster. From the same world as the vortex weapons.
Predatory brachiator. Ditto on the world of origin. This creature sweeps down out of the trees and carries people off before they can even scream.
A "Nerk". Nerk, of course, being another alien race's name for them. They communicate using radio waves, so their own name for themselves is a series of frequency shifts. That's no an extra eye on its back, by the way. It's something much more unusual.
Torpedo boat. An idea I was toying with. It's a spaceship designed for attacking capital ships. The warning-patterned section marks where the rapidly-replaceable torpedo magazine (the angular boxy thing) slots in.
A "Loper". This is an evolutionarily-designed (hence the odd appearance and weird things like the foreleg design), semi-intelligent soldier-bot. Its creator designed it for psychological warfare, anti-infantry duties and capturing humans.
The Wordsman. The Wordsman is a member of a human tribe/gang usually referred to as the "Dusties". He fills the combined roles of elder, educator, and judge.
Hevvik the AI. The AI companion and assistant of an alien visitor. Packs a lot of intelligence into a small, hand-held metallic sphere.
The Maxigun. More me playing around with words than anything. Maybe you could use it to cut a hole in a spaceship hull...
Turret designs. Left: A Free Electron Laser Cannon (FEL Cannon, or Fellcannon if you're speaking soldier-vernacular), right: A human plasma turret, such as might be found on a tank.
Black Betty. named after an ancient song, this armoured vehicle keeps its owners safe as they travel through the Aussie outback.
Armour pieces. Intended to fit together into a ragdoll-physics-operated main character. This is after I decided to add said physics.
A Frankenstein's Monster. A bit of pixel-concept work for a boss creature.
Mini-copter. The main character would be able to use this to reach high places and travel between levels..
A Forget-Me-Not brand AI coin purse. This little fellow was intended to attract attention to himself by jumping up and down when the player came near.
Tile map. This was the map for the player's home, a partly-ruined futuristic city (ruins not shown).
Health pods. The intention here was to have the player pick up the red pods and store them for use later, as one might with medical kits in a First Person Shooter. The Blue pod raises the players health permanently.
Ratta-tat. Clip for a machine gun.
Shotty shells. A box of shotgun shells, 12 gauge.
Terminal. The main character would be able to access the remnants of the Internet through these.
Locker. Items would be stored in these for the player's use.
Power Generator. Switching on ancient power generators would allow doors to be opened, lights to be lit, and lefts to be used.
Assorted weapons. Left to right, top to bottom: Semi-automatic, big revolver, splinter pistol, pump action shotgun, combat shotgun, automatic shotgun, sub-machine gun, assault rifle, rapid-fire tri-barrel assault minigun, rifle, hunting rifle, sniper rifle (the last three were intended to take advantage of the game's scope mode), laser rifle, electrocannon, plasma thrower, flame-thrower, water cannon (The tank replenishes water from an underwater portal to another dimension. This weapon would have taken advantage of the game's liquid physics), freeze cannon, bazooka, grenade launcher, minigun, incendiary grenade, explosive grenade, freeze grenade.
Original PC's walk cycle. These are the legs of the original version of the main character, before I decided to add proper physics. I've been told he has a "funky" walk.
Running, now. I think this has an element of comedy to it.
Factory-hand robot. These fellows were supposed to inhabit an abandoned factory.
Attacking. Obviously, they're malfunctioning from neglect.
Death. Poor, poor robots.
Brrrrrrrm. A patrol-drone from an ancient military complex.
Boom. Said drones are not invulnerable.
Yet another robot. Flying patrol drone.
Whokka-whokka-whokka! These guys would buzz the player from behind, if possible.
Bitmap Font This was the interface font for computers and whatnot..
Wacky Weapons A set of inventory icons for RPG weapons, some of unusual sorts... not complete, yet. And they need antialiasing.
Creepy Crawler Isometric animation frames of a little critter.
Gems Inventory gem icons. I want to animate them later.
Isometric gems. Gems, as they'd be seen in the isometric view of an isometric RPG.
Lightsourced gunship. For another game idea: A nonlinear, 2D 360 shooter.
Animated gif. This was done several years ago as my avatar for use on the fansite halflife2.net (hence the Half Life references. Also, it turned out to be too big for the site to allow it at the time.). The little grey character, Friggy, is (or will be) the mascot of this site.
